SouthWest celebrates medal success at 2026 UniSport Nationals

SouthWest Judo Academy had plenty to celebrate at the 2026 UniSport Nationals, with four athletes representing their universities and a strong contingent of club members supporting the event behind the scenes.

Olivia Knights, representing Edith Cowan University, won gold in the women’s −63 kg division.

Representing Curtin University, Zara Aziz claimed silver in the women’s −52 kg division and added a team gold as part of Curtin’s winning women’s squad.

Scott Fuerste earned bronze in the men’s −73 kg division and a second bronze medal with Curtin’s men’s team. Uno Javier finished fifth in the men’s −66 kg division and contributed two wins to Curtin’s bronze-medal team performance.

Congratulations to Olivia, Zara, Scott and Uno on representing SouthWest and their universities so well.

SouthWest members also made a significant contribution to delivering the competition. Thank you to Jacob and Cody for their work through Judo WA and the additional time they gave as volunteers, and to Simon, Aramiti, Marlee, Shane, Krystal, Carl, Tom and John Barnizo for their help throughout the day.

We also extend a big thank you to the many club members who helped move mats from the dojo ahead of the competition. It was a huge undertaking, and their support made a real difference.

From competing on the mat to volunteering and moving equipment, this event showed the strength of the SouthWest community. We’re proud of everyone who played a part.
