Club rules & policies

A safe, respectful dojo for everyone — members, visitors and spectators.

To ensure a safe, respectful and enjoyable environment, we ask all members, visitors and spectators to familiarise themselves with these guidelines.

Preparing for class

Personal hygiene

Keep your body clean. If you are feeling unwell, please stay home and recover before returning to training.

Grooming

Keep fingernails and toenails trimmed. Tie long hair back with a band that contains no metal.

Accessories

No jewellery or hard objects are allowed during practice.

Uniform

Wear a clean, dry and undamaged judogi. If you are unsure about uniform standards, ask your coach. Girls should wear a white shirt under their judogi.

During class

  • Bow when entering and leaving the mat.
  • Treat all members with courtesy and respect; listen carefully and follow coach instructions.
  • No eating or chewing gum on the mat. Water bottles are allowed near the edge of the mat.
  • No shoes on the mat — store footwear neatly before stepping on.
  • Look out for others and report unsafe practices to a coach.
  • Report all injuries to a coach immediately.

Attitude & etiquette

  • Arrive on time and ready to train; give your best effort and support your club mates.
  • Enjoy the practice, socialise and have fun in a positive environment.
  • Learn and practise Kodokan judo safely, with restraint outside the dojo.
  • Treat judo as a path to self-improvement — not as a tool for intimidation or harm.

Spectators & visitors

  • Spectators are always welcome.
  • Please use the seating provided along the side of the mat.
  • Refrain from loud or excessive talking, especially when coaches are instructing.
