SouthWest earns 14 medals at Kano Open

SouthWest Judo Academy brought home 14 medals from the 2026 Kano Open Judo Competition on Sunday, 17 May, hosted by Kano Judo Schools.

Our team earned six gold, three silver and five bronze medals, with athletes competing across a range of ages and experience levels.

Uno Javier claimed two gold medals, winning both Junior Men’s −66 kg Novice and Senior Men’s −66 kg. Casey Dunn also won gold in Senior Women’s −70 kg Adaptive.

Our younger gold medallists were Marcello Manestar in Under 9 Boys and Girls −21 kg, Quinn Goff in Under 11 Boys −30 kg Novice, and Koby Atkinson in Under 13 Boys −41 kg Novice.

Silver medals went to Luke Phillips in Under 9 Boys and Girls −27 kg, Archer Goff in Under 13 Boys −41 kg Novice, and Isaac Salzmann in Under 15 Boys −73 kg Novice.

Five athletes earned bronze: James O’Loughlin in Under 11 Boys −30 kg Novice, Freddy Wall in Under 11 Boys −34 kg Experienced, Rosie Connolly in Under 11 Girls −34 kg Novice, Hendrix Williams in Under 13 Boys −38 kg Novice, and Carmello Manestar in Under 13 Boys −45 kg Experienced.

Congratulations to every SouthWest member who competed. There was plenty of good judo and team spirit throughout the day, with each contest offering an opportunity to put training into practice and identify areas to work on back at the dojo.
